A transmission line leak in east Oahu is causing low water pressure in Kalama Valley and Queen’s Gate.
The problem with the 36-inch line began Sunday morning (Sept 17, 2017) when the Board of Water Supply (BWS) announced the line was leaking.
Queen’s Gate and Kalama Valley do still have water, but it is at very low pressure.
Three water wagons have been dispatched to the area. One is located at the corner of Ninini Way and Ninini Place, and two others are roving near Queen’s Gate and Mokuhano Street.
UPDATE FROM BWS:
At 6:30 PM (9/17), BWS announced a planned water shutdown. At 8:15 PM, the shutdown was rescinded, and the following message transmitted (https://www.nixle.us/alert/6164697/)
BWS crews continue work on a leak on a 36-inch transmission line in the East Honolulu area. After further assessment, water service will NOT be turned off, but will remain at low pressure. The BWS asks residents of the affected area to conserve water to help minimize the situation.
Residents of Queen’s Gate and Kalama Valley are asked to conserve water. Specific areas that will be affected are: Ninini Way, Namahealani Place, Nahoku Place, Kalama Paka Place and the Kalamapu’u Townhouses. 51 services including the 80 townhouses will have very low water service during repairs. One water wagon will be located at the corner of Ninini Way and Ninini Place and 2 roving water wagons will be in the other areas to assist area residents.
Repairs are expected to continue into Monday evening. There are no traffic impacts to the area as the pipeline is located in utility tunnels and not under any roadways.
Update from BWS: 9pm 9/18:
BWS crews continue work on a leak on a 36-inch transmission line in the East Honolulu area. Repairs are expected to continue into Tuesday morning.
Normal water service has been restored to residents of Queen’s Gate and Kalama Valley. 8 – 9 services on Ninini Way remain without water. Two water wagons are available for those residents.
