The concept of aquaponics is simple. Water from a fish tank pumps through a grow bed filled with plants. When the grow bed reaches a certain water point, the water drains back into the fish tank.
The fishes’ water is filled with fish poop loaded with plant nutrients like ammonia, nitrates and nitrites. These same plant nutrients when left untreated, are toxic to fish. So, plants remove and grow on the very same elements that fish need removed from their habitat. Once the habitat is established, maintenance is minimal and plant yields are unbelievable.
Here’s a short YouTube video of the process.
