Fast forward to today. Over the years, we’ve donated $5,000 dollars to Kaiser PTSA ($4999.59, to be exact for you accountant types). However, on June 5, I received a phone call at work from someone purporting to be from Kaiser PTSA who informed me we were no longer welcome at the Farmer’s Market. The man did not leave his name or contact information other than the phone number from which he called.
The next day I attempted to call and text the number and the exchange was not cordial. The man still refused to give me his name or any other contact information. I was later able to determine, from others, that it was likely the new president of the PTSA, with whom they have had run-ins. (I am too decent to doxx anyone here, so it’s up to you to look him up.)
He did not seem interested in the remaining donations, so money was not a concern for him. We still have residual donations, so those will be donated in $500 blocks to another public school, SEEQS.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with “SEEQS: the School for Examining Essential Questions of Sustainability,” it is a 6-8 grade public charter school whose mission is to produce graduates who are stewards of planet Earth and healthy, effective citizens of the world.
Regarding future exchanges, they will continue. We were fortunate enough to have the support of Oahu FREE Plant Share and 808 Craft and Gift Fairs, so we now have what I consider to be a superior venue for the exchanges. Although I had nothing to do with the drastic change, I apologize to anyone who is still grieving the location or date shift. Change is hard, and it is especially hard when it comes unannounced and with no explanation. Bear with us as we figure out what the new partnerships will look like. I will always have your best interest at heart and high consideration for the culture of open, unconditional sharing.
Regarding your past donations, the first check is being mailed to SEEQS today with the request that the the donor credit be specified as “Oahu’s Plant Share Community.”
