More Edible Flowers: Nasturtium

Posted on December 7, 2023

I just found a [website with a full list of edible flowers] along with a description of the flavor. Back when I lived in San Francisco, there was a farmer’s market vendor who sold an incredible salad mix with colorful flowers. I recall loving the flavor of calendula the most. Sadly, I have not had any success growing calendula here in Hawaii. My next favorite: nasturtium, which has a peppery tang to it.

I ordered two types of nasturtium, one from Renee’s Garden called ‘Little Firebirds,’ and another from Baker Creek called ‘Phoenix.’ All parts of the plant are edible. AskTheFoodGeek.com has a nice graphic to show what each part tastes like.

The seeds went into the a seed sprouting kit yesterday. I’m hoping that nasturtium will grow as well here as it did back in California.
