Christmas Lima Beans

Posted on November 11, 2023

A Twitter friend sent me my first Christmas Limas, and I’ve been growing them regularly. They’re easy to grow here in Hawaii, and they taste good — a little like chestnut, hence the name Christmas Lima. They’re also called Fagioli del Papa, Pope’s Beans or Calico Beans.

My mother also grew some and made a rice mixture with them. Even those that profess to hating Lima beans liked the dish. (or at least they say they did)

In any case, it’s one of those plants that can take sustainability far. It doesn’t take much care or watering and it grows prolifically. Be sure to provide a support, however. This bean is a vine bean.
