I’m bringing rau ram to tomorrow’s plant exchange. Lots of rau ram. Turns out, rau ram loves aquaponics systems and like ong choi, just keeps growing and growing. I’m also cooking rau ram, because. . . it turns out it loves aquaponics systems and it’s crowding out everything else.
For my rau ram recipe, I turned to the website bunbobae.com and “Vietnamese Chicken Salad (GÀ BÓP)” As luck would have it, I had two boneless chicken thighs defrosting in the refrigerator, and a couple of sweet onions in the pantry.
This was an easy dish to prepare, incredibly tasty and a nice side for everyday meals. Because I love spiciness, I added a jalapeno and some matchstick ginger; it was divine. The flavor of rau ram has been compared to cilantro, but I’d say it has its own flavor. It can be substituted for cilantro in many dishes, but I think it has a bit of a floral aura which I find pleasant.
