White Cosmos flower in garden

Poor soil? You’re in luck. Try cosmos flowers.

Posted on July 18, 2023

Both my mom and I tried growing cosmos flowers in the nitrogen-rich mulch soil mixture we usually use, but the flowers didn’t seem to like it. Then, we tried again using ordinary dirt.

Here’s a picture of the much happier white bloom in my garden.

Turns out there are a few plants that not only don’t mind poor soil, but thrive in it. Cosmos is one, lavender and rosemary are two others. For the August plant exchange, we’ll have cosmos, sensation mix seeds (whites and pinks from Johnny’s) available for you.
