Gifts from the Garden

Posted on July 13, 2023

How I wish I could grow these so well. The tomatoes and cucumbers pictured are gifts from others’ gardens. Our dear friend G couldn’t make it to this month’s exchange, but he still had over a hundred plants to donate; I stopped by in Kailua to pick them up. In one of the boxes, he left three beautiful tomatoes for me.

By the way, G is one of our most amazing volunteers. He’s always so giving and thoughtful. For all our kupuna out there, he’s the main reason you don’t have to bend down so much any more. He also donated three tables so that we can elevate the plants to a standing level.

The cucumbers are from regular exchange visitors. In June, the same visitor also brought cucumbers to share. From time to time, we do get food from others; lemongrass, pandan, limes, guavas, Thai chilis, to name a few.

I can’t say this enough: Mahalo! Thank you to everyone who makes each month a success with your thoughtfulness and generosity.
