I lost two quail over the past two days. I think it was a cat. Not our cat, a feral one that’s been boldly hanging around the coops. Lost two hens, but quail are pretty nonchalant when it comes to losing their flock. They were just going about their business as usual, ignoring the pool of blood and wads of feathers surrounding the cage.
I locked the birds inside the more secure part of the cage for tonight. They can go back outside into the run in the morning. These aren’t the first birds I’ve lost. I’ve lost one to a mongoose, one to a rat, two to my own cat, and three to the quail themselves. Luckily, they’re easy to replace. I have eggs in the incubator right now and they’ll hatch in the usual 17 days.
