Suja Organic Ginger Love: A stevia-sweetened lemonade

Posted on July 13, 2022

I love ginger lemonade so when this one went on sale at Costco I had to give it a try.

Boy, was I surprised. It was nothing like I thought it would be.

On the first day, after the first two sips I hated it. But the next day, finished it all. I think a lot of it had to do with expectation. It’s a healthy diet drink. I was expecting an overly sweet sugar bomb, the type you get at the KCC Farmer’s Market. The sharp bitter taste of natural stevia and cayenne took me by surprise.

The ingredients in the drink are simple. Organic, followed by the following words: Water, Lemon Juice, Ginger Juice, Pineapple Juice, Stevia Leaf Extract Powder, and Ground Cayenne Pepper.

Each drink has 1g sugar. No carbonation. It’s probably good for diabetics. I’ve found that anything with stevia (the natural kind, not the processed type) seems to balance my sugar levels and also acts as a bit of an appetite suppressant. Don’t quote me on that — no scientific proof here, just observation.

Each drink in this pack of six weighs 10.5 ounces and comes in a HI-5 recyclable plastic bottle. I can’t say this drink is going to be a hit with everyone but it’s grown on me. I’m still not sure I’d buy it again, but I’m pretty sure I’ll finish what I have.
